SESNA isn’t limited to monthly meetings!
In recent years, SESNA has organized street-tree plantings, litter and junk furniture clean-ups, and more. But starting in 2018, we decided to move beyond the typical neighborhood association activities, and focus on building connection and community among all our neighbors–residents and business operators.
First came some technological changes. We upgraded our website (a full redevelopment is coming in late 2018) and moved to an email system that allows you to decide what you want to hear about.
We expanded outreach, both to neighbors and to businesses. Our current limited budget does not allow for mailers; reaching every address in SESNA with just a postcard would cost in excess of $2,000! That’s why we distribute flyers by hand, and ask you to sign up for our email list. (Now would be a great time. Don’t worry, this page will still be here when you get back!)
In June 2018, we had our first annual Kickoff to Summer Ice Cream Social in Aldrich Park. We teamed up with neighborhood businesses and organizations:
- Umpqua Dairy
- 13th Street Nursery
- Willamette Heritage Center
- MERIT (MicroEnterprise Resources, Initiatives, and Training)
Roundhouse Band even played an acoustic set!
We’re planning to produce a community event every 3-4 months. What kind of events would you like to see and create in our neighborhood?
- Want to organize a block party? National Night Out is in August every year.
- Can you lead walking tours of neighborhood points of interest?
- Host movies in the park?
- Help connect neighbors with services?
- Welcome refugees to Salem?
There are so many things SESNA can do, with you, in our neighborhood. There are so many ways to get involved, from joining a project committee to simply distributing flyers near your home or business or helping out the day of an event.
Join us at our next meeting, or send an email to us by way of the Contact Page. We want to hear from you!
